Description

An original Henry Cliffe (1919-1983) abstract pencil sketch on paper. Simplistic in style, and a study piece from a body of his work in 1974. Deep-set float mounted and presented in a lightly waxed oak frame.

Cliffe was born in Scarborough Yorkshire, and studied at the Bath Academy of Art where he went on to run the lithography studio. Printmaker, painter and sculptor, he was a regular exhibitor internationally, and in 1960 was one of the five artists selected to show in the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, which included Eduardo Paolozzi and Victor Passmore.
